The church of St Martin in the village of Vic has interesting 12C wall paintings, discovered in 1849; George Sand brought it to the attention of Prosper Mérimée, who made it a Listed Monument in 1850. Among the scenes depicted, Redemption is the primary theme, articulated through Christ's birth and death. Its skilful composition, the movement of its characters and the fabric, and the attention to detail are all characteristic of the pictorial and sculptural art of the Limousin and Southwest France.
