The remains of this 12C Cistercian abbey, buried deep in nature, exude something extremely evocative. The apse is still standing, one dome is still there, the other has been eroded over time, and the arches of a vanished chapterhouse majestically inhabit the wooded valley (bosco cavo: "hollow wood") in which it first stood 800 years ago. Unaccompanied visit (free admission) with the help of panels charting the historical background of the site.
