Useful information

Description

This building was designed in 1859 by James Renwick Jr to house William Corcoran's collection and his planned art school. When it was opened in 1874, it was one of the first examples of a Second Empire-style building in America, and the city's first public museum. A recent and brilliant restoration campaign has revived the genius of the original place, while adapting it for contemporary art events.
