Useful information

Description

These two museums, connected by a passage, offer an overview of Oriental arts and civilisations from Antiquity to the present. The Freer Gallery exhibits remarkable collections of Japanese and Himalayan art. It also boasts an exceptional collection of paintings by the American James McNeil Whistler (1834-1903). The second part of the collections, including superb Chinese jade objects (3500 BC) was bequeathed by Arthur M. Sackler (1913-1987), a New York psychiatrist with a passion for the Orient.
