Useful information

Description

Whithorn is known for the ruined Saint-Ninian's Chapel that stands on the rocky foreshore. It was long believed to be the site of Candida Casa, the first Christian edifice in Scotland. It may well mark the site where Saint Ninian, the region's evangelist, landed. Not far from the village is St Ninian's Cave, with some crosses carved in the rock. It is said to have been the saint's place of retreat.
