Useful information

Description

Dating from the 4th millennium BCE, the Ġgantija Temples are most probably the oldest remains of the archipelago and perhaps in the world. The site was visited as part of the "Grand Tour" that young European aristocrats embarked upon to broaden their understanding of Antique art. The name is a throwback to the gigantic dimensions of temples. Legend has it, that given the size of the megaliths, some of which are up 6m high and weigh several tonnes, the monuments must have been built by giants.
