Useful information

Description

A large, red-brick building in Franklin Park depicts life in the Yakima region from prehistory to the present through the use of artifacts, historic photos and interpretive notes. Exhibits start with an overview of the tribes of the Inland Northwest, then focus on Anglo history: fruit farming, settlement and the growth of Yakima. Included are a balanced view of native son and US Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas (1898-1980), an impressive array of horse-drawn vehicles, and an extensive collection of apple-crate labels. On the lower level, the museum operates a fully restored 1930s soda fountain, with an Art Deco interior of gleaming chrome, neon and tile.
