The Middleham Jewel and Ring are its star exhibits. One section is devoted to St Mary's Abbey, a Benedictine property founded in 1088 by William II (Rufus the Red). In the garden, the observatory housing a telescope from 1850 and a clock that set the city's official time is also worth seeing.
