Useful information

Description

The Baroque façade (17C) of this edifice stands on the site of an early Christian 5C basilica. It was devoted to St Simeon in 1570 when the latter's reliquary was transferred here. It is an amazing sarcophagus, commissioned in 1377 by Elisabeth of Bosnia, Queen of Hungary and Croatia. To cover the cedar wood both outside and in, the Milanese goldsmith, Francesco, then a resident of Zadar, used 250kg of silver and large quantities of gold leaf!
