Useful information

Description

Drum Tower, erected in 1272 for defensive purposes, then rebuilt in 1420, guarded the entrance to the city. The closure of its gates was accompanied by the roll of 25 drums; around 20 of which are still visible. Nowadays its massive architecture with three storeys of tiled rooftops commands a lovely 360° view of the neighbourhoods of old Beijing.
