Separating the Crisana from Transylvania, these mountains constitute an open-air ethnographic museum. Its karstic-relief landscape is often beautiful and sometimes spectacular, with villages tucked away in valleys or standing on hillsides. It is not unusual to come across humble thatched dwellings that are still inhabited. Flocks of sheep graze its broad high pastures, accompanied by shepherds in their warm greatcoats.
