Surrounded by dunes and reedbeds, Crisan lies on the banks of the Danube canal, dug from 1880 to 1920. This linear settlement, several miles long, is famous for its picturesque houses with blue or green woodwork. From the jetty, boats head to Mila 23, a Lipovanian fishing village characteristic of the old Danube with lovely historic cob houses and reed-thatched roofs - its name signifies that it is 23 nautical miles from the sea.
