Useful information

Description

Also called the Château du Haut-Châlus, where the entrails of Richard the Lionheart are kept, this castle stands on a hill overlooking the town and upper Tardoire valley. Its isolated keep (11C) is imposing: 25m high, 10m in diameter. In the corps de logis, which was extended in the 17C, but still has some parts that date from the 11C-13C, a guards' room has been reconstructed. It is a fine example of military architecture in the golden age of feudal France.
