Useful information

Description

Mortlach was a bishopric until 1131. Founded c 566, this historic church has been considerably altered. It has modern stained-glass windows by Cottier and Douglas Strachan and a captivating Pictish symbol stone - the "Elephant Stone" situated in the porch. The Battle Stone in the cemetery is said to commemorate the victory of Malcolm II over the Danes (1010). As an act of grace, he extended the church by three spears' lengths.
