Useful information

Description

Situated on the strategic road from Donside to Moray, the castle is now only a courtyard enclosed by ruins. The primitive structure had a massive curtain wall and a moat dating back to the times of the Comyns in the late 13/early 14C. Towards the mid-16C, the 4th Earl of Atholl, a Stewart, built the Renaissance castle. The entrance is particularly ornate with sculpted coats of arms, mouldings and corbelled structures.
