Dark forests as far as the eye can see, old houses like something out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, peat bogs and mysterious castles, the Harz mountains have an irresistible romantic appeal. The highest peak in this crystalline mountain range is the Brocken, a bare summit where witches are said to meet on the first night in May.
