Built by Yusuf I, this gate named the Puerta de la Justicia is set into a tower in the outside walls. It used to be one of the main entrances to the Alhambra. Like most Moorish defensive gates, it is angled. On the outer arch a hand is depicted, palm towards the visitor. The five fingers symbolise the five pillars of Islam (faith in only one God, praying, fasting, giving alms and pilgrimage to Mecca).
