Description

This impressive 22m-diameter hydraulic wheel, which dominates the Laxey valley and has become of one of the island's emblems, is the largest of its kind still in operation in the world. Built in 1854, at the time of the first industrial revolution, it was used to pump water from the local lead and silver mines.
