Founded fifty years ago by Professor Makino Tomitaro (1862-1957, the father of Japanese botany, Makino garden is home to a museum, a restaurant and 6hectares of landscaped grounds dotted with flower borders and greenhouses, where orchids, hibiscus, lotus, medicinal plants and bonsai all thrive. In all it is home to nearly 3000 species of plant.
