Useful information

Description

The origins of the castle date back to the 12C, but Jean de Berry had the old fortress transformed between 1367 and 1390. The architect Guy Dammartin, who oversaw the Duke's building works, turned it into a Flamboyant Gothic castle. A miniature of Les Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry (the original is in the Condé Museum in Chantilly) shows the building as it was in the 15C, but you can still make out the layout of the castle today. The Charles VII Museum, laid out in a tower, charts the history of the site.
