The collections of the Polytechnic Museum originally came from an exhibition held in memory of Peter the Great, a great science enthusiast. The renovation currently taking place aims to raise it to the rank of one of the world's top science and technical museums. The work has been entrusted to Japanese architect, Junya Ishigami, whose project involves turning the Polytech into a garden-museum. Until then, a portion of the museum's holdings has been transferred to Pavilion 26 of the VDNKh.
