Description

Founded by Bishop Eugene in the late 13C, the cathedral is the oldest church in Mystras. Inside, note the flooring and the frescoes: eleven scenes depicting the martyrdom of St Dimitrios and illustration on theme of the Preparation (Hetoimasia), an empty throne with the Byzantine cross above it, symbolising the expectation of the second coming of Christ for the Last Judgment.
