Description

On the other side of Pevchesky Bridge, the beautiful building at the end of a courtyard separated from the quay by a cast-iron gate belongs to the Singing Academy or Capella. Founded during the reign of Peter the Great, it was directed by illustrious musicians including Mikhail Glinka, whose name it now bears. Built in 1777 by Yuri Velten, it was entirely rebuilt in 1889 by Leonti Benois. Its concert hall endowed with excellent acoustics is one of the best in the world.
