Mastaba of Mereruka
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

On the immense Saqqara site (almost 8km2), one of the oldest necropolises of Ancient Egypt, stand pyramids and tombs from several dynasties of kings. But the tombs at Saqqara do not hold only royal remains: high officials also had their tombs built, as is the case of this mastaba, where the Vizir of King Teti I is buried. It rivals the nearby pyramid of the king in terms of the number of chambers and apartments (32), and the beauty of its low reliefs, richly decorated with scenes of daily life.
