With its fresco-decorated balcony, this is one of the prettiest houses on the square. It was built in the 19C on the site of the house where Hernán Cortés is said to have lived before leaving for Mexico in 1518, accompanied by his army of conquistadors. The building now houses the Galería de Arte Universal which exhibits works by contemporary artists. The upper floors have retained their beautiful painted decor and offer fine views of the square.
