At the foot of Schattenburg Castle, the Old Town has preserved remains of its ramparts, the symmetry of its Medieval triangular plan and the charm of its arcaded squares. The Marktplatz is a long rectangle, lined with arcades, where here and there a few inns with painted façades, a corner turret with a dome or a Gothic oriel window catch the visitor's eye. Southwards, note the façade and sober belfry of the Hospitallers of St John of Jerusalem's former church.
